The Art of Banksy – Without Limits, Bucharest and Cluj

Bucharest City Hall, through the Administration of Monuments and Tourist Heritage, in collaboration with Events, challenges you to rediscover the Triumphal Arch, one of the most famous monuments in Bucharest, through an exhibition-event, signed by BANKSY, the graffiti artist who changed forever the role of street art, through his works with revolutionary messages.

The exhibition “THE ART OF BANKSY”, which left Istanbul in 2016 and has been hosted in Paris (still open), Amsterdam, London, Rome, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Toronto, Montreal, Milan, includes over 50 paintings, photographs and stencils, based on Banksy originals, installed inside the Arc de Triomphe. These include the famous graffiti “Girl with Balloon”, “Bomb Hugger”, “Police Kids”, “Pulp Fiction” and “Flower Thrower”.

This will be complemented by videos about the life and creation of BANKSY, as well as a pop-up shop, open throughout the exhibition.

The Arc de Triumf terrace will be open for visits, if you want to end the tour with a stunning view of Bucharest.

Visitors to the exhibition will also be informed about the historical, artistic, architectural and heritage value of the Arc de Triomphe and the buildings in its vicinity: the Government building, Casa de la Presei, Enescu Museum, Casa Poporului, etc..

In Bucharest, the exhibition will be open from 30 July to 27 October 2019, from 12.00 to 22.00.

Tickets can be bought both at the Arc de Triumf ticket office and online at Eventim.ro, as well as in the network of partner shops – Vodafone, Telekom, Diverta, Cărturești, Carrefour and OMV petrol stations.

Ticket prices are 35 lei on weekdays and 40 lei on weekends, while pupils, students and pensioners will pay 20 lei from Monday to Friday and 30 lei on Saturdays and Sundays. Children under the age of 7 are admitted free.

Adored by millions for the provocative truth in his messages, pilloried by critics for exactly the same thing, BANKSY – the world’s best-known graffiti artist – has become, according to the Times magazine, one of the 100 most influential people on the planet, although he is still an anonymous figure.

There are countless speculations about his identity. It is certainly known that he was born in Bristol, UK, but other than that, nothing is known for certain, although not a few have tried to discover the man behind the famous BANKSY signature.

In the meantime, his iconic street art images have come up for auction for fabulous sums. Famously, the auction of the painting based on his “Girl with Balloon” work self-destructed just seconds after it sold for £1.4 million.

His work is making its way around the world, both online, with millions of shares on social media platforms, and in real life, in the form of exhibitions, most of them unauthorised by the British artist, but with huge success, taking his work to countries and under amazed eyes discovering him for the first time. “THE ART OF BANKSY is one of them.
